New Records of the Spider Fauna from Perlis (Malaysian state)

Abstract

Perlis is endowed with a diverse range of ecosystems that supports a significant level of flora and fauna biodiversity. Despite its high species richness, few studies have been performed to highlight the diversity of spider species in Perlis. Spider fauna surveys were conducted during Scientific Expeditions at Perlis State Park on 15 th-16 th October 2019 and Eco Park Rimba Bukit Ayer on 4 th-6 th October 2022. From the survey, ten out of 41 spider species were identified as new records for Perlis. The observed spiders are well represented by Araneidae (2 species), Tetragnathidae (1 species), Pholcidae (2 species), Psechridae (1 species), Liphistidae (1 species), Sparassidae (1 species), Theraphosidae (1 species), and Bemmeridae (1 species). This baseline data will assist in shedding light on biodiversity and conservation of spider species for Perlis.
